Clamshells
Clamshells are a type of thermoformed plastic packaging which fully encases your product in a tough, protective layer of plastic. Usually incorporating a hinge at the bottom or side of the package, the clamshell is unsurpassed at showcasing all sides of your product and shielding it from the bumps and bruises of the retail marketplace. In addition, clamshells can provide the option of removing the product from the package and then replacing it, with no permanent damage. This is especially useful for items that need to be fitted or tried out before purchase.
A new trend in today’s packaging is the mock clamshell. Not really a clamshell at all, the mock clamshell is simply a regular face seal blister whose outer perimeter is extended beyond the size of the display card, thus “mocking” or suggesting the appearance of a full clamshell. This way, your product is very well protected but the additional costs of a full clamshell are avoided.
